Massive Women’s Gathering Highlights Empowerment in Luanda
Organized by the provincial government as part of Women’s Month celebrations, the event drew participants from all 16 municipalities, reflecting the diversity of Angolan women across different ages, social backgrounds, religions, and political affiliations.
During the gathering, Luanda Provincial Governor Luis Manuel da Fonseca Nunes highlighted concerns about rising deviant behavior among some youth, calling for coordinated efforts from public institutions and society. He emphasized the need for stronger policies focusing on prevention, education, timely justice, and effective enforcement of sanctions.
Nunes also underlined the importance of fostering trust in state institutions, stating that no woman should feel unprotected against violence or abuse, and no family should be left exposed to social challenges.
The meeting included discussions on women’s empowerment, gender equality, and women’s contributions to national development, alongside cultural and recreational activities. Attendees shared experiences and stressed the importance of recognizing women as pivotal agents of social, economic, and political progress.
Officials urged all sectors of society to enhance measures that safeguard women and promote their welfare, noting that protecting women is essential for the well-being of families and the future of society. The Luanda provincial government reaffirmed its commitment to policies that ensure equal opportunities and strengthen the role of women as a cornerstone of sustainable development in Angola.
